Burera Volunteers for Development Association(BVDA)
Burera volunteers for Development Association is not for profit,community based,not for political and youth led organization based in the Northern Province of Rwanda.This organization has been created in 2005 and it aims at promoting and improving the living conditions and health standards of undeserved,poor,marginalized and underrepresented communities in the Northern Province of Rwanda.
GOALS:
1.To improve the living conditions and natural and human resources management in underprivileged communities in Northern Province of Rwanda.
2.To promote sustainable development initiatives, creativity and responsibility in the communities of northern province of Rwanda and abroad for their own living conditions through active participation of both BVDA volunteers and our targeted communities.
3.To promote intercultural understanding through participation of students from different countries
4.To develop the capacities of our volunteers in problem solving, research, fieldwork and project management,etc.
Mission:
Creating opportunities and empowering vulnerable children/youth, as well as the community to live a lifelong commitment to active citizenship, through Education and Health. All these are Self-help project components focusing towards social and economic emancipation of local communities.
OBJECTIVES:
1.To reduce the prevalence of malaria in our target communities.
2.Drama group for the youth aiming at creation of awareness of STIs / HIV / AIDS.
3.Improve the knowledge of the target community on preventive health issues, nutrition and family planning.
4.To empower women to effectively manage their own and the natural resources of their environment.
5.To initiate, facilitate and promote income generating schemes in the communities.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:
1.Enroll Children and Youth for Primary, Secondary and vocational studies.
2.Sports activities to occupy the idle and build healthy bodies and moods.
3.Drama group for the youth aiming at creation of awareness of STIs / HIV / AIDS.
4.Offer Counseling Services to those affected and infected.
5.Carry out home care visits to the children and their immediate families.
6.Conduct training workshops on Sexual reproductive health, and encourage responsible behaviors.
7.Hold quarterly meetings with counseling aides, caretakers, guardians, youth and orphans; religious leaders + local authorities.
8.Introduce and Educate the Youth about sustainable Income-generating activities, Environmental Management, and Self Help projects.
9.Provide information concerning adequate nutrition, Water supplies and Domestic Sanitation Facilities / Hygiene / Health etc.
